- Couple one advances four steps toward couple three. Couple one
retires four steps to
place, couple three advancing along with them. Now both couples
return together toward couple
three's home. Couple three stop at home and couple one split them,
gent one going ccw
and lady one going cw around the outside of the square and back to place. All
swing partner half
around, swing corners once around, then promenade that corner to
the gent's home place.
Gent one, with a new partner each time, repeats all the above
three more times. [Uptown
and Back; Napier] [Uptown and Back; Sharp] [Uptown and Back;
Bonner] [Uptown
and Back p. 25; Rohrbough]

[Chase the Goose;

- Join hands, circle left.
First gent lead out a wild goose-chase, Break to the left and round the lady, Break to the right around the gent, Four hands up and going again, Break to the left, etc., Six hands up and going again, etc. Eight hands up and going again, etc., Break to the left in a wild goose-chase, Break to the right and going again, Come your places, home swing, Balance eight, Join hands, circle left. ~ Sharp; as called in Harlan Co., Kentucky, 1917
- A slight variation on 1 above. [This is my interpretation of Napier's
instructions. Your's may differ.] When the line of geese split the last couple, the gent of that couple (Old Crazy) breaks away and follows the end of the line as
it travels around behind his standing partner. Rather than follow the line
as it passes in front of his
partner, the gent doubles back, passing behind his partner to
place. He and his partner
then join the end of the line. [Wild Goose Chase (II)
Variation; Napier]
- Break to the left and around this lady
Back to the right and around Old Crazy Pick up four Break to the left and around this lady Back to the right and around Old Crazy Pick up six Break to the left and around this lady Back to the right and around Old Crazy Pick up eight
- This variation is similar to 2 above. When
the line splits the couple for the second
time to travel around the gent, the gent quickly dances cw around
his partner, arriving at
place just in time to join in the circle left. [Wild Goose
Chase; Sharp]
- Same call as 1 above.
- Couple one join inside hands. Gent leading,
couple one split couple two going ccw
around the lady and in to the center. Couple one do a small cw
loop in the center and
again split couple two, going cw around the gent. Then couple one moves on to repeat the figure with the next couple while couple two stays put. With the last couple the ones dance any do-si-do figure (see Little Circle figures) but do not dance the goose chase. All swing partners
and promenade.
[Figure Eight p. 24; Rohrbough]
- Away to the left and dance the figure eight.
Back to the right and around the gent. (Repeat around the set) Do-si--Home swing--Promenade. ~ Given by Mr. Dillard Turner of Yeaddie, Kentucky in 1930
- Similar to 1 above except Duck for the Oyster #1 (see Little Circle figures) is
done each time before breaking to a
line to dance with the next couple. [Glenville Fig. 4;
Dalsemer]

- Couple one splits couple two and travels cw
around the gent and back to the center.
Couple one splits them again and goes ccw around the lady and back
to the center.
Couple one dances a small cw loop as they come into the center,
then circle left with
couple two. They finish by dancing the "reel to reel" (see "Do-Si-Do #4" in Little Circle figures), circle left again, and then gent one leads those three on to the next couple to repeat, etc.
